East Meets West meeting in Penang

Dear Registrants and Faculty,

It was a great pleasure to meet all of you and to be involved with the East Meets West meeting. The whole thing was born when we stumbled on the idea of VGRD in 2000 -- and one thing led to another. The result: three days of collegiality and bonhomie at an extraordinarily friendly and relaxing destination. We feel that the educational programme met and even exceeded our expectations. Thank you, Faculty, for your hard work and expertise. And, thank you, Registrants, for joining us. You all were a knowledgeable and fun loving group. It was great to meet all of you.

What fine memories we will have! Please feel free to share your favorite pictures with us and we'll post them on a Picasa Web Album for all to view.

We invite you join VGRD if you are not a member already. It will be a pleasure to have you as a participant, and also please consider submitting an occasional case presentation.

Hopefully, we will continue this meeting in future. If you haven't already done so, let us know where you would like the East Meets West conference to be held in future. Malaysia? Thailand, India, Iran, Australia, Brooklyn, NY, elsewhere?

Also, think about joining us on Kauai for the next Hot Spots in Dermatology August 15 - 18, 2007. Any Penang attendee can come for a 50% tuition reduction.

Best wishes, Till we meet again, Selamat Tinggal, Ma-salaam, Chai Chian and Aloha nui loa,

East meets West:
The Art and Science of Dermatology
November 9 – 11, 2007
Batu Ferringhi, Penang, Malaysia

Venue: Holiday Inn Resort Penang, Batu Ferringhi, Penang, Malaysia

Sponsored by: The Kauai Foundation for Continuing Education, Virtual Grand Rounds in Dermatology, and Online journal Dermanities.

Overview

We are planning an international conference to be held at Batu Ferringhi, Penang, Malaysia. This programme is sponsored by The Kauai Foundation for Continuing Education, Virtual Grand Rounds in Dermatology, and online journal Dermanities.

We will assemble a group of talented speakers to consider topics that are important to dermatologists the world over. The conference will address science, clinical dermatology, the role of informatics and the art of practice. The Penang meeting will not be yet another “been there, heard that, done that” event; but will break new ground in education and collegiality.

In order to foster collegiality, the Penang programme will be relatively small. Our speakers will be individuals who will come to learn as well as lecture. Chaucer’s great quote “And gladlye wolde he lerne and gladlye teche” will describe our faculty. As with the American Academy of Dermatology we do not pay our speakers.

Please consider joining us in this quiet and historic corner of Malaysia to spend a relaxing and stimulating three-day weekend with colleagues from all parts of the world. We have speakers confirmed from the Malaysia, Singapore, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, India, New Zealand and the U.S. at this time.

Some of the topics we can address will be:
• Cutting Edge Science in Dermatology
• The Art of Practice
• Frontiers of Dermatologic Surgery
• Innovative Therapy
• Virtual Grand Rounds Colloquium
• Teledermatology

The programme will develop around what our teaching staff will address. It will be invaluable to have that next generation of dermatologists as faculty and registrants. To this end, we will invite registrars and trainee dermatologists to come at greatly reduced rates.

Should you elect to join us, your time at the Penang conference will be a memorable experience from the educational and personal standpoints.
